Sociology Much?!
I always have been curious of what people from different cultures think when they come to a little town like West Chicago. If a person were to come from a Australia and just took a look inside our school they would probably so lost and confused. I really never thought about how diverse our school was. Once we started talking culture it really made me think about how many people go home to different back rounds. It is so interesting to me now that i have taken a deeper look into things. For example, September 16th it is Mexican Independence i saw a whole bunch of Hispanic races walking around in sombreros and things that represented their culture. At first i thought it was silly that they would do this at school. Then i realized it's who these people are. They want to represent their culture in their own way. Us Americans do the same thing on July 4th, We are representing the day we all became free. I love how your own culture is what makes you so unique from others. Sometimes i wish i was from a different culture just to experience what it would be like in someone elses shoes. I'm sure if i were to go out of the country I would stand out like red dye on a brand new white shirt. Learning about culture is a very fascinating topic. I love looking a several cultures and seeing the cool things that i never would have learned about them.

Being from the northern part of our country, you could head south and feel like you're part of another culture :)
ReplyDeleteStevie, I really enjoy your view about diversity. I wish more people were open to other cultures like you. The idea of a red dye on a white shirt is a great imagery. You should take a trip to a foreign country just to observe it. The pair of shoes a person has worn, doesn't follow everything a person has gone through, and through experience first hand when I went back to the Philippines, it didn't take my changing my shoes to fit a different culture(my daily life did play a slight part). But I found that it was more valuable to me, in my own "journey" per say, to view a different culture view me also. It truly opened my eyes, and I'm glad I went, even if I was homesick. You, and your family live in their own culture at home, and that what makes you different from anyone else.
